An old song I always loved, but never quite learned all the words to, just the chorus, which in Yorkshire (I thought) we always sang "Oh the broom, the bonnie bonnie broom/ the broom of the golden aura/Fain would I be in my north country" etc. I probably had it wrong. We were usually drunk when we sang.
Blooming broom is a springtime thing. Which is why I posted it here. And so I might finally learn it.
Broom Of The Cowdenknowes
Blooming broom is a springtime thing. Which is why I posted it here. And so I might finally learn it.
Broom Of The Cowdenknowes
How blithe each morn was I tae see
My lass came o'er the hill
She tripped the burn and ran tae me
I met her wi' good will
My lass came o'er the hill
She tripped the burn and ran tae me
I met her wi' good will
CHORUS
Oh the broom, the bonnie, bonnie broom
The broom o' the cowdenknowes
Fain would I be in my own country
Herding my father's ewes
Hard fate that I should banished be
Gone way o'er hill and moor
Because I loved the fairest lass
That ever yet was born
Gone way o'er hill and moor
Because I loved the fairest lass
That ever yet was born
CHORUS
Oh the broom, the bonnie, bonnie broom
The broom o' the cowdenknowes
Fain would I be in my own country
Herding my father's ewes
Farewell, ye cowdenknowes, farewell
Farewell all pleasures there
To wander by her side again
Is all I crave or care
Farewell all pleasures there
To wander by her side again
Is all I crave or care
CHORUS
Oh the broom, the bonnie, bonnie broom
The broom o' the cowdenknowes
Fain would I be in my own country
Herding my father's ewes

Welcome to our Farm Blog.
The purpose of this blog is for Aimee and I to communicate with friends and family, with those of our students, and other folks in general who are interested in homesteading and farming activities.
The earliest posts, at the very end of the blog, tell the story of the Great Farm, our purchase of a fragment of that farm, the renovation of the homestead and its populating with people and animals. Go all the way to the last post in the archive and read backwards from there to get it in chronological order.
After getting tired of spam comments (up to a dozen or more per day), I required commentators to be Google "registered users". You can write me at mwomersley@unity.edu if you have a serious comment or question and are not a registered user.
Spammers -- don't bother writing -- there's no way I will post your spam to my blog. Just go away.
